Hudson Valley Garden Association

A garden in the Hudson Valley

Why HVGA matters

The benefits of gardening are many, whether it is to connect with nature, obtain a better understanding of our environment and where our food comes from, adding value to our surroundings, beautifying our homes and communities, creating habitats for wildlife, as a form of exercise or just spending time outdoors. The Hudson Valley is home to a rich garden community comprised of energetic home gardeners, knowledgeable plant growers and retailers, historically and horticulturally significant landscapes, dedicated garden clubs and talented professionals. By increasing the number of gardeners in the Hudson Valley, as well as the level of interest and expertise, all parts of the community will thrive.

HVGA will foster a growing population of passionate gardeners, while building a network that will support one another and elevate the greater gardening community. This gardening force will add to the quality of life in the Hudson Valley for everyone from home gardeners, to nursery owners, to residents who simply enjoy strolling through a garden. We will buy more plants and become landscape customers. We will volunteer more, give more to public gardens, join a club, attend more events and will share a greater interest in creating garden spaces in our community and our own backyards.

Laura Wilson's career began in New York City as a designer and art director. After relocating to the Hudson Valley in 2001, gardening became more than just a hobby and Laura began a decade long career in horticulture. She managed a garden center, studied Landscape Design at The New York Botanical Garden and established herself as a professional gardener, consultant and educator. Determined to help promote the region's vast gardening opportunities, she launched the Hudson Valley Garden Calendar website in 2010. Hudson Valley Garden Calendar was just the start of Laura's vision of building a greater gardening community in the Hudson Valley.
Rebecca Glembocki has lived with her family in the Hudson Valley for more than 12 years. She is an artist, gardener and mother of two. Rebecca has spent years working on her gardens, travelling the area and enjoying the Hudson Valley's rich landscape and wonderful gardens. She is excited to work with Laura, and contribute to a much needed organization that will connect and inspire gardeners of all skill levels.
